Meet Cassidy

Cassidy is a very easy going 10 year old who loves Jason Aldean, gymnastics, pageants, shopping, and swimming! Cassidy was five when she diagnosed with Wilms Tumor in 2007. During treatment, she developed HUS and lost most of the function of her remaining kidney and was on dialysis for a little over two years. She had that kidney removed, to lessen the risk of relapse. In June 2010, to months after that surgery, she had a kidney transplant (which was donated by her mom :)!). Two months after the transplant, she tested positive for the Epstein Barr Virus. In December 2010, after having several unexplained fevers, stomach pains, and loss of appetite, a routine CT scan revealed a spot in her large intestines. In January 2011, she had a 4" section of her intestines removed. Pathology confirmed she had Post Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disease a form of Lymphoma. Two weeks after the surgery, she had a PET scan, which showed a spot in her small intestines. She had six months of chemo, which ended in June 2011 and all of her scan since then have been No Evidence of Disease! She has complications from a weakened immune system (has had pneumonia four times between September 2011 and September 2012) and recently tested positive for a rare infection (Mycobacterium Avium Complex).

Cassidy is truly a fighter and she will survive and grow up to be a feisty, fashionable, fun-loving young woman one day.
