Meet Tannah

When Tannah and her mom went to the doctor for her 2 year well baby check up, the doctor immediately noticed something was wrong and sent them to the University of Virginia Children's Hospital. After careful evaluation the doctors diagnosed her with retinoblastoma. Tannah was given one week to live. The cancer was so bad the doctors were forced to remove her right eye. The surgery took place just 4 days after her original well baby check up. In December, Tannah will be cancer free for 19 years! She still has routine MRIs done and her latest scans were clear.

Tannah's loss of her eye has affected her life in many ways. Her body has compensated by giving her better than perfect vision in her other eye, stronger hearing and sense of smell. Her depth perception is off and she caught her first ball when she was in high school. Tannah says the most important thing having cancer has taught her is that everyday is a gift and there is always hope. Your life can change in a second but never give up because that bad thing could turn into a blessing. Love deeply, laugh often and never give up on a dream.
